  • An excellent filler plant that will fit just about anywhere, this upright, airy, non-stop bloomer is a must in every perennial garden. But there is a catch! It isn't always reliably hardy here. It won't tolerate wet, heavy clay soils in winter. However, it self sows generously, so it will pop up next year anyway, even if the parent plant doesn't make it. Never invasive, it is easy to rogue out any unwanted seedlings, and it's choice of where to land is often a pleasant surprise. Enough about that! The plant - Tall, upright branching stems hold clusters of magenta-purple flowers from early summer until late fall. Very drought tolerant, attractive to butterflies. Great in masses, or just sprinkled throughout the border, weaving in and out of other plantings.Requires well drained soils.
