Wow! Talk about a contrast plant! This is a showstopper! Bright gold (is there a stronger word? maybe chartreuse-yellow is better, the picture doesn't do it justice) new growth in spring fades to a yellow green in summer. In spring, the showy young carmine-red flowers, resembling strawberries, are soon followed by reddish-purple cones that turn brown as they mature. Slow growing, dwarf plant.
