  • Coral Bells (Heuchera) are popular garden plants due to their versatility. They have interesting foliage that grows in neat mounds, with attractive scalloped leaves. 'Obsidian' has a fantastic habit and displays extreme vigor. It has the deepest purple color yet, almost black, with extremely glossy leaves that look almost polished. It is our new favorite for a dark leaved selection due to the way it holds up all season long and its hardiness. The pinkish-cream flowers rise 18-24" on wiry stems above the foliage in May and June, and are bell shaped. All heucheras want well drained soil, and most varieties appreciate at least some shade during the heat of the day. This variety combines well in sun with 'Blue Star Junipers' a low growing evergreen shrub, or in semi-shade with a mass of 'Japanese Painted Ferns' which also highlight the purple color, and provides textural contrast, or 'Gold Hostas'. Especially wonderful with a plant we haven't added to the catalog (coming soon) Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola' or Golden Japanese Forest Grass, which is a golden weeping grass like plant.
