Groundcover

Spreading Liriope, Spreading Lilyturf

  • Botanical Name:    Liriope spicata
  • Height:    12"
  • Spread:    2-3' +
  • Exposure:    Sun or Shade
  • Care:    Cut to ground in spring, before new growth emerges. For large areas, you may mow it.
  • Useful for massing, or groundcover. Deep green foliage. Evergreen. Likes sun or shade. This plant is versatile and looks good all season long. It features showy lavender purple flower spikes in late summer, followed by spikes of black fruit. This is the spreading form, not the clumping form, and is not suitable for edging. It will spread rapidly using underground runners and is best suited as a larger scale groundcover where other less vigorous small plantings are not located. It forms a dense mat of foliage that will effectively choke out weed growth.
