- An old fashioned favorite, this is an easy care perennial that provides an excellent show and is available in a wide variety of colors and heights. Showy blooms in spring provide great cutting flowers. Great in a border or massed. Division: Divide the clumps when they are crowded and flowering poorly. The proper time is during July and August. Save divisions from the outside of the clump and cut the leaves back by two thirds when replanting. Take care when re-planting, the prefer to be planted shallowly, barely covered with soil. If planted too deeply they produce leaves but no blooms.
