  • There are many varieties of ‘Mophead’ Hydrangeas to choose from. They all require similar conditions. Morning sun and afternoon shade are ideal. Beautiful in a woodland garden in filtered sun. Most varieties bloom on branches grown the previous season, so pruning must be done correctly in order for them to bloom. The newer varieties like All Summer Beauty (Blue) and Forever and Ever (Pink) bloom on new wood so they produce more flowering stems. Great for cutting or drying. Note: Flower color is sensitive to soil pH. Acid soil will produce blue flowers, and more alkaline soil will produce pink flowers. To acidify soil, you may use aluminum sulfate, or for pink blooms use Garden Lime. White varieties are not sensitive to soil pH.
