  • There are many excellent varieties available. They come in different colors, mostly shades of pink and white. Single, Semi-Double, and Double Flowering varieties are all available. One note, however is that the single flowering varieties tend to be more upright, sometimes the weight of the heavy double flowers is too much for the stems to bear, and they will flop over. Culture is the same for all. They need sun to bloom, but will get burned in sun if they do not have enough moisture. So some afternoon shade is preferred. The ideal location is good morning sun, and rich moist, well drained soil. A great perennial for a partly sunny area, this plant will light up the border in late summer and early fall. Flowers last for weeks. Spreading habit; give plenty of room or divide every few years. Anemone tomentosa 'Robustissima', or the Grapeleaf Anemone is a particularly vigorous plant, with lavender-pink flowers and will spread quite a bit. Great plant for border or mass planting. Very hardy.
